Going Green with The Paper Players

Hi everyone! It's time for the first new challenge of the year at The Paper Players, woo hoo! My sweet and talented friend LeAnne is hostess this week, and she's helping us kick start our resolutions with a Going Green challenge, to use a recycled item in our projects.

One of my Christmas gifts from my son and his girlfriend this year was this beautiful fig and vanilla soy candle from Sydney Hale Co. It smells amazing! Also note the cool box in the background, which is one of my recycled items. I also recycled some black sparkly ribbon which was on another gift.

I thought I'd use my recycled items to get started on a Valentine's Day card. I always make cards for my sons and of course hubby too, so I went with what I hope is a masculine Valentine. Close up you can better appreciate the subtle tone on tone stripes of the kraft card stock, and the sparkle of the ribbon. The die cut sentiment is inlaid on the black base, with just a few peeks of red. At the last minute I added a few hearts because I thought the card wasn't Valentine-ish enough. I hope they are not too girly!

I'm also playing along with both the SSS Monday Challenge which is "Start Afresh", and the SSS Wednesday Challenge which is "New Something". My new and never-before-used item is my Hero Arts Love Stamp & Cut.

Products Used:
Stamp Sets: Love Stamp & Cut (Hero Arts)

  1. Hi Sandy, I would have hated to cut up the box. I'm a box hoarder for sure. The card looks great. Good push to start my Valentine's too. Hope this new year brings nothing but good memories. How is Bill doing? :)

  9. I like the appearance of the Kraft Card Stock in your card. Did you position the light source to modify the appearance of the columnar gray features? Anyway the positioning and contrasts in the card are stunning! Great card!

    1. Hi Brent! The kraft card stock is smooth, it has glossy lines which I guess look crimped or corrugated to everyone. No fancy light tricks, I am not that talented, lol!
