An Open Heart for Seize the Sketch #26

Greetings, Stampers! It's Tuesday and time for another fabulous challenge at Seize the Sketch! This week Katie is hostess and she has designed a wonderful sketch with lots and lots of room for interpretation. You can keep it clean and simple, or layer it up to your heart's content. I went the way of some layers, and used the mirror image of the sketch so my little birdie's butt wasn't facing the sentiment. I hate when that happens, LOL!

I'm playing with a brand new stamp set for the first time today, An Open Heart. It's a perfect stamp set for watercoloring, which I love to do. I wanted to create something earthy and a little eclectic, so I combined it with the Hardwood background stamp and a mix of embellishments.

Though another stamper friend of mine has identified this breed of bird as a wren, I wanted to add a little splash of color so I have decided he is a robin today! The bird, branch and sentiment were all stamped in Black Stazon ink and then colored in with various ink pads and an Aqua Painter. The bird was "fussy-cut" by hand, something I find very relaxing. The speckles in the background are inherent to the Naturals Ivory paper.

Stampin' Up Products Used:
Stamp Sets: An Open Heart, Hardwood
Card Stock: Naturals Ivory, Old Olive
Ink Pads: Black Stazon, Old Olive, Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand, Basic Gray
Tools: Big Shot, Circle Framelits, Aqua Painter
Accessories: Linen Thread, Gold Sequin Trim, Venetian Crochet Trim

Thanks for paying me a visit today and please visit the rest of our amazing team at Seize the Sketch! We hope you'll play along with our challenge, too!

  5. There's nothing worse than having a bird's butt facing the sentiment! LOL! And I like the bold coloring of the wren. I can say for sure that if this little guy showed up at my bird feeder I'd make a mad dash for my camera!
