The Zoo Review Stamp Set is not a new set, but it is new to my collection and this is the first time I am inking it up. This set was on my wish list because it is great for masculine cards, kids cards, and also for the holidays (with a penguin and a polar bear). I think this will be a great card for my nephew.
I looked at this layout from Freshly Made Sketches, and thought: Hmm...what image would fit in that tall, thin area? Why a giraffe, of course!
The giraffe image was a lot of fun to color in. Since there is so much detail in this image, I thought I could be most precise using nice, sharp Watercolor Pencils. I colored in all the areas lightly, first. Then, I used an Aqua Painter to activate the color. First I did the brown areas, then cleaned the Aqua Painter and went back to do the mustard areas. The colors weren't quite as rich as I wanted, so I went back and colored again a second time with my pencils, no Aqua Painter this time. I very lightly went around the perimeter of the giraffe with a gray pencil, then blended that with the Aqua Painter to create a shadow effect. I'm kind of happy with my end result!
