Thanksgiving is, without a doubt, my favorite holiday of the year. I serve Thanksgiving dinner every year, and enjoy preparing and cooking the meal, and especially enjoy the leftovers! When I saw the Spice Cake ensemble in the Holiday Mini Catalog, I was really inspired to use some of the products to set my Thanksgiving table. I'll be showing you my projects as I create them over the next few weeks. Today's project is napkin rings, which showcase the beautiful Spice Cake Fabric and the fun Spice Cake Designer Buttons.
I made 12 napkin rings. I probably won't need all of them, but I would go crazy if I was one or two short! The base of the napkin rings is recycled toilet tissue rolls and they are easy and fun to make. Here's how:
Measure each roll into three 1 3/8" wide rings and cut with a craft knife. You'll find that the rings are easier to cut if the lines are clearly marked.
Assemble your other 'ingredients' (one of each for each napkin ring):
- Cut interfacing into 1 3/8" x 6" strips
- Cut Spice Cake Fabric into 2 3/4" x 6" strips
- Cut card stock into 1" x 4 1/2" strips
- Cut additional fabric into 1 3/4" x 4 1/2" strips
- Cut ribbon into 5 1/4" strands
- Cut Hemp Twine into 6" strands
First, cover the cardboard rings with interfacing using a dab of Snail on each end. The interfacing will cover the seams in the cardboard and prevent them from showing through the fabric.
Next, using a dab of Tombo Multi Adhesive or fabric glue, attach the centered (larger) fabric strip on each end.
Spread a thin line of adhesive on the exposed fabric and turn the fabric into the ring, pressing firmly as you go around.
Cover the card stock with the smaller strip of fabric using the same process.
Spread a thin line of adhesive in the center of the ring. Roll up the covered card stock, right side in, and insert it into the ring to cover all the raw edges. Once again, press firmly as you go around to adhere the strip to the inside of the ring. Trim any loose threads. The napkin ring is now complete to be decorated as you wish. You may want to allow the rings to dry overnight first, as I did, to allow the glue to dry completely.
Adhere the ribbon to the outside of the ring using Sticky Strip. Tie the Hemp Twine through the button holes and knot. Attach the button to the ring using a craft glue dot. That's it! Your napkin rings are complete!
