I'm back! Whew, it was no easy task getting home after my cancelled flight and thousands of people at the airports in the same boat. Mother Nature was kind to me this time and I arrived back to my home and family just as I left it. Although I had an awesome vacation, it felt good to get back to some ink and rubber! I set right to work on joining in on Mary Jo's Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge.
The first source of inspiration for this card was, of course, the sketch. The inspiration for the color combination came from the beautiful Holly Berry Bouquet Designer Series Paper which is now available in the Holiday Mini Catalog (scroll all the way down for links). The third source of inspiration was an article in my Stampin' Up! demonstrator magazine about paper quilling.
Paper Quilling is an ancient art but the concept is very simple. I started with a heart punched with the Full Heart Punch. The strip of card stock is Very Vanilla cut to 1/8" x 11". Fold the strip of paper in half and crease.
Using a clean Stampin' Sponge, moisten the two ends slightly with water. This will make the card stock a little softer and easier to begin rolling.
Using the Paper Piercing Tool, wrap the end of one side of the strip and begin rolling inward. Try to roll it snugly, though it does not have to be perfect.
Do the same for the other side.
I put a little Tombo Multi Adhesive on a paper plate, and using a toothpick, applied some glue to the back of the quilled heart. Adhere the heart a little at a time so you get it exactly the way you want. I found it easiest to start at the point and work my way upward, so that both sides are adhered the same.
You'll probably have a little extra glue on your finished heart, as I did, but don't worry because the glue dries clear. Now just complete the rest of your project and adhere the heart with a little more Tombo adhesive.
Isn't this Designer Series Paper sweet? It's hard to believe it comes from a pack of holiday themed paper. The greeting is also stamped onto a piece of DSP from the same pack. So, here are the links to the much awaited Holiday Mini Catalog:
